another well produced reeko ep on planet rhythm. this is dark angry techno music that should be played only at loud volume. the title track >bad connection< is a raw nervous track on a somewhat slower pace that will definitely get people dancing. especially for all those raves that last until 7 in the morning this is one for the peak hours. >look at me< is a jumpy non 4/4 techno rhythm with cool effects and chords, the rising synth at the end of each loop is a nice look. >in a different world< and >restart< are both tracks that fit perfectly in this new prruk record. good producers know how to build an ep in a way that it feels like chronological soundtrack. reeko knows exactly how to do this.

the next ep on germany s hello? repeat imprint comes from seuil, one of paris s most inspired underground producers. in terms of style, it is a match that could hardly be more perfect. hello? repeat has spent the past six years carving a niche for itself with eps from cabanne, audio werner and label co-founder daze maxim, plus acclaimed albums by bruno pronsato and kate simko. seuil, meanwhile, has put out a steady stream of ultra-deep 12-inches on labels like freak n chic and sammy dees ultrastretch. both specialize in a sound that is modern, understated and hypnotic. late call is exactly what its name suggests: a record made for the deepest, most tender portion of the night. the drums are slick and punchy, but the rest is woozy and romantic�this is one to put on when the crowd has stopped chatting and everyone s dancing with their eyes closed. topping it off is a vocal line made famous by diana ross but recited here by an androgynous diva: if you need me, call me, no matter where you are, no matter how far� dark, trippy and weirdly moving, this is one of seuil s finest tracks yet. >slow motion< strikes a similar chord but with a more subtle approach. here you notice seuil s rare touch for subtlety: in the absence of any real >hook<, he keeps the track moving with expertly sculpted drums, a warm half-melody and a gently propulsive beat. soft chords sustain in the background to create a balmy summer night feel. both tracks show seuil and hello? repeat doing what they do best: delivering something deep, functional and full of character.

since the last senking album >pong< (r-n122) was a great success in 2010 and sold out quickly raster-noton swiftly asked for a follow-up of massels sound cosmos. on >tweek< senking again reveals his sense of cineastic atmospheres and dark abysmal depths of sound, which are subordinate to extremely slow choky basses and delayed beats. references to dubstep are rather the result of testing the outlying areas of the frequency spectrum than a direct relation to the genre. nevertheless it seemed very obvious to release senkings sound on 12inch vinyl to follow the footsteps of >plasticstar< (r-n081) and >pruitt igoe< (r-n124), >tweek< is meant to be a dj-tool for a club environment. >tweek< refers to a character of the well known us series >southpark<, who plays with feelings of incertitude and nervous decease. the album documents the eagerness to experiment and indicates astonishing ideas shining through the dark substance. the tracks even reveal cheerful and comical features.

studio one women is the latest in the series of studio one compilations released by soul jazz records. ska, rocksteady, funky reggae, roots, dub mixes, disco mixes, they are all here from the queens of the jamaican music scene. studio one women features a wide mix of classics and obscurities from the finest female voices in reggae. until now most of these tracks have only ever been available as extremely hard to find jamaican 7 inch and 12 inch singles and even if you were lucky enough to find them they d cost you a small fortune! marcia griffiths and rita marley (here with her first group the soulettes) are two of jamaicas most famous female singers hugely popular today. both these artists became internationally famous as the i � threes (along with judy mowatt), bob marleys backing singers alongside the wailers. also featured are hortense ellis, sister of alton who cut many smash hit on the island and jennifer lara, a lady who had a long career with studio one, singing on countless sides until she sadly passed away earlier this year. studio one is the greatest label in the history of reggae and is the foundation of all reggae music. it is where virtually every world renowned jamaican superstar started out, bob marley and the wailers included. under the guidance of the legendary clement >coxsone< dodd the musicians at studio one recorded hundreds of instrumental rhythms which still provide the backbone for many of the records made in jamaica today.
